Love is letting me sleep while you stay up and watch the storms...

Our weeked was fun but seemed to just fly by as always. There is never enough time to do all the things that must be done and to do all the relaxing that we need so desperately.

Friday night we ran to Medford after work to meet up with Andy's Dad and then no sooner had we walked in the door than Andy got called out and had to go to work. That was not according to plan, but gave me time to relax with a book and so that was a nice evening after all.

Saturday the boys were going to Grandma's house for the day and off to a Wingnuts game for the evening. We had the day all to ourselves and we decided to try and do absolutely nothing. I'm not sure we completely succeeded in doing that because I had to get groceries and do some cooking for that evening, but we really did have a relaxing afternoon complete with a nap! Woo-hoo! Love those Saturday afternoon naps.

Saturday night we went to a BBQ/party at some new friends of ours, Whitney and Tara's house and had a really good time. We visited with some friends that we had not seen in quite some time and met a lot of new people too which seemed to be just the thing we needed. And we needed a night of "no kids allowed".

Sunday too was mostly a lazy day. The boys and I spent most of the afternoon at my Grandmother Gracie's house. I had a really nice visit with Grandmother and my Mom while the boys played outside at the farm. I know the day will come when we won't have her with us anymore and so I seem to treasure every visit more and more.

After we left the farm we went home and baked brownies and while they cooled, Cole and I snuggled under a blanket and read for a "Which Way Book" or Choose Your Adventure" book. Not sure what they are really called but it was nice to spend some cuddle time just the two of us. That and when we can spend that much time reading together it makes me hopeful that he will truly develop a love for reading.

Andy suggested that rather than cooking last night, instead we should go to town to eat so we loaded up and headed in to eat at El Maguey only to find that they were closed so we opted for the other Mexican food place on Summit and I can't remember the name. It was good, but not "El Magooey" as Andy calls it.

Last night we got wrapped up watching Lonesome Dove and unfortunately instead of getting to bed early as planned, we didn't turn in until after 11:00 and right about that time our NOAA weather radio alarm went off telling us that there was a tornado warning for Sumner County and it was heading our way. I got the boys dressed in pants so they would be ready if we needed to head out to the storm shelter and then let them fall back asleep. Then I packed a few more things in the "tornado bag" that I keep by the back door, "just in case". After I got our shoes lined up by the back door and made sure we had flashlights and candles ready and new batteries in the weather radio, I went to bed. Bless my sweet husband! Even though I argued with him, he said that there was no sense in both of us staying up so he let me sleep. Then as the night wore on and the storms rolled in, poor thing was called out to work and worked all night with no sleep. He's still working this afternoon and dead on his feet.

God I love that man!

Not Even Friday the 13th Could Get Us Down

Our weekend was good but was way to short as always. We looked at three houses Friday night and two were a disaster. There is just not much on the market in the way of rural properties. But we did see a place that we are very interested in. We still have some discussions to have with the bank and want to have it inspected and to do some more looking at it. There is no denying that it is a wonderful buy.

We could get this home and acreage for much less than it't worth and the selling price would be below what we set as our upper limit. But there is always the chance that the taxes and the insurance would make this home be a little out of our range once they were added onto the montly payment. Unfortunately the taxes are high. The location and square footage took care of that. So we will see. I think this is one of those "this is the one" properties.

I have done nothing but daydream about all the possibilities with that home. And so has Andy. This is the first property that we have both even been close to agreeing on and we were in complete agreement. It's so fun to think about the colors of paint I would choose and flooring and all the fun stuff about having a house that needs work. You get to choose what you want. Right now fantasizing about more bedrooms is pretty cool too!

The boys went to their Grandparents in Freedom yesterday (Andy's parents). They've never been gone like this before and I am not dealing with it really well. Last night was pretty tough. Today I got excited about hearing their voices after they got home from school and then realized that I was not going to see them after school like normal. But I am looking forward to Mama and Daddy time and that's good. We need a little time to ourselves.

Tommorow night I'm having dinner with friends at Nieves' in Winfield and then not sure what else is in store for the week.

Life is good right now though. I'm really excited and hopeful and truly feel like we are really starting to get to the good stuff!

I Can't Complain

So the work week is almost finished and I am looking forward to the weekend, the days that I seem to look forward to all week. I'm looking forward to not getting up early tommorow. I'm looking forward to not being "in charge" or anything tommorow and not being responsible for anything but my kids tommorow. And actually I have a little break from that too. My sister, Kerrie has invited the boys to stay the night and play with her two boys. So we have a night to ourselves to act like kids! And then in the morning I am going shopping with my Mom so I can spend some of my Birthday money and hopefully find some new work clothes for Spring. I don't get a lot of opportunity (or better said do not make time like I should) to do things that don't involve kids or hubby. So tommorow is about doing what I want. And I'm excited about that!

Today was payday. I used to always hate payday because that was the day that I paid bills. And after I paid all the bills that would come due in the next two weeks, when I looked at what was left over, it was just depressing. It was a relief to know that everything was paid on time and better to know exactly what I had to work with for the next two weeks, but at the same time it just sucked. (remember this is my blog and I can say sucks all I want!) So today my bills are all paid (way early!) for the next two weeks and I have money left over and that feels really good. It feels great to be able to just write out all the checks and not have to think about what I might not be able to pay this time. There were times about 5 years ago that there never seemed to be enough money to meet the basic bills, let alone to have nice things or even something little that I wanted. I think there is something about knowing that everything is in order and that there are no bill worries that just makes life good. We're not made of money by any means but I at least don't have to worry about paying bills.

This week has actually gone well at work. Some of the days have just flown by because they were kind of nuts, but it was one of those weeks that I really understand why I do what I do. And that I'm good at it. Sometimes I feel like I am kind of in a lull, like my good ideas are all used up. And then other times I come up with something new and really fresh and I feel like I deserve to have this job again. Tommorow is my 6 year work anniversary. Though there are days when this job has me ready to pull my hair out, I remind myself how grateful I am to have it. Managing people is hard as is dealing with the public. But it can also be really rewarding and I've developed special relationships with patients and staff over the years and they are important to me.

This job and the increase in pay that came with taking it enabled me to leave a bad marriage. It put food on the table and a roof over our heads after we left. Had I stayed at the hospital where I was working prior, I'm not sure that I would have been able to raise those boys on my own. I don't even know if I would have left by now. So I am grateful to the men who own this practice who gave me the opportunity to learn, share ideas, make changes and be successful and at the same time, gave me the means to change my children's lives for the better.

This is a good day.
